Sir Clive Marles Sinclair was born on July 30th, 1940, near Richmond upon Thames, England. (His middle name is his mother's maiden name.) Sinclair is a British entrepreneur and inventor of, amongst other things, the world's first small electronic pocket calculator (the Sinclair Executive), in 1972, and the ZX Spectrum computer in 1982.
From an early age Sinclair was fascinated by electronics. In 1961 he started his own company, Sinclair Radionics Ltd, after spending several years as assistant editor for Practical Wireless and Instrument Practice to raise funds for his company. The company ran until 1979.
Sinclair was also the inventor of the Sinclair C5 electric car, which was launched on the 10th January 1985. Unfortunately, the C5 was a commercial disaster.
Sinclair was married for 23 years to Ann. The marriage produced three children: Belinda, Crispin and Bartholomew.
He was Chairman of Mensa (UK) between 1980 and 1997.
